14. Plus Parliament House

Image
I have been wanting to share some things I've been doing this week but had no pictures for you until now. I'm starting to find my own way around but am still confused as to why I can get to the same place in two to four ways and they all take about the same amount of time. I really do need to make an effort to visit the visitor's centre for a map! Monday night was the first time that my housemate and I spent together. I was inspired to make dinner and it was yummy. I wish I'd known about following recipes earlier in life. It was surprising that we have a lot of likes in common. We saw each other for about 5 minutes over the course of the rest of the week, so I don't think that there will be many sharing issues. I said previously that I would probably join the gym that was the same colour as my car but I tried it out and was uninspired! I will return to Youtube and 'Move with Nicole'. Thankfully, Aldi had another yoga mat sale.  Instead, I have joined an impr

13. Entertainment 1st week of Feb

If you thought that there was nothing much to do in Canberra, you are wrong. I somehow got quite busy socially this week, despite not having friends here. I have decided that I have officially met enough people to not be overwhelmed with fun things to do! Wednesday night, after driving around and around and feeling like I was in Melbourne for a while, I joined a meet up at Smith's alternative to listen to a jazz band. I was so difficult not to get up and dance my own dance but I managed to contain it to my chair. I noticed that the lovely Jennifer, who welcomed me with a huge smile and offered me a seat, as I stood in the doorway and scanned the room for what might be the meetup group, was doing the same. She is running a jazz jam there on Sunday 19th and invited me along. She also invited me to join her on her September trip to Spain, Portugal and Morocco, which I would dearly love to do, but don't think that I will be able to take time off before my trip to Antarctica in Feb

12. Old Parliament House

As I mentioned on facebook, I have realised that in the time (or less) that it takes me to get out of my driveway at home, in Canberra, I can be somewhere interesting.  Last weekend I took myself to Old Parliament House and joined a volunteer led tour. I was the only one on the tour. When that ended, I looked around the various exhibitions. I was surprised by the size of Old Parliament House and impressed by the smell of the wood and the sponginess of the carpet but surprised by how small some of the offices were. Party rooms were set up to reflect different eras. Due to the fire at the door, which set of the sprinklers in the building, part of the building was still closed for repairs.  King George got a statue because he was King in 1927 when Old Parliament House was built. This picture and the next are of the Prime Minister's office (after the extension in the 70s) What everyone said and how they voted in parliament was recorded in books. It was interesting to find out that ther
